Lookman, Troost-Ekong, Oshoala Nominated For 2024 FIFA Best Awards (Full List)
by Enioluwa Adeniyi · Naija NewsThree Nigerian football stars, Ademola Lookman, William Troost-Ekong, and Asisat Oshoala, have been nominated in various categories for the prestigious 2024 FIFA Best Awards.
The announcement, made by FIFA on Friday, highlights the exceptional performances of the players over the past year.
Ademola Lookman, who secured a 14th-place finish in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings, earned a spot in the Best Attacker category.
He will face stiff competition from top global talents, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland, Vinicius Junior, Bukayo Saka, and rising star Lamine Yamal.
Lookman’s nomination reflects his impressive season, which saw him deliver stellar performances for both his club and the Super Eagles.
William Troost-Ekong is in the running for the Best Defender award, standing alongside some of the world’s most formidable defenders such as Antonio Rüdiger, Dani Carvajal, William Saliba, Achraf Hakimi, Manuel Akanji, and Jonathan Tah.
Asisat Oshoala earned a nomination for the newly introduced Marta Award, which celebrates the best goal in women’s football.
Her breathtaking acrobatic strike for Barcelona Femeni against Benfica in the Women’s Champions League in November 2023 secured her place among the nominees.
In the race for the Men’s Best Player award, Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, will compete against Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Toni Kroos, and Federico Valverde.
FIFA announced that voting for the 2024 FIFA Best Awards is now open. Fans can cast their votes on the FIFA website until December 10, 2024.
