Bauchi PDP Split Widens As Wike Camp Picks Toro As Chairman
by Richard Ogunsile · Naija NewsA faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has elected Ibrahim Kassim Toro as the state chairman during its state congress held at the weekend.
Naija News reports that the congress produced a new state executive committee through a consensus arrangement reportedly agreed upon by party stakeholders.
The development further underscores the lingering division within the party in the state, with another faction recognising a separate leadership.
The outgoing chairman of the Bauchi State PDP Caretaker Committee, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, disclosed the outcome of the congress in a statement issued on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
According to Mohammed, stakeholders and aspirants resolved to adopt a consensus process in selecting members of the new state executive council.
He explained that the congress was conducted peacefully and attended by party leaders from across the state.
Mohammed added that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were present to monitor the exercise, alongside security personnel.
Mohammed expressed appreciation to the people of Bauchi State and the national leadership of the party for the opportunity to serve as caretaker chairman.
He noted that his tenure formally ended with the emergence of the newly elected leadership.
He also commended the electoral umpire and security agencies for ensuring a smooth exercise.
Mohammed described the congress as peaceful and orderly.
Apart from Toro as chairman, the congress elected Barrister Bashir Tahir Misau as deputy chairman.
Others elected into the state executive committee include Engineer Nazif Sabo Likita Jama’are as secretary; Muktar Abdullahi Milo Udubo as Vice Chairman (North); Abdullahi Hassan Ningi as Vice Chairman (Central); and Abdullahi Muhammad Barau as Vice Chairman (South).
Also elected were Umar Abdulkadir Sarki as organising secretary and Godfrey Mannasseh Marti as publicity secretary.
The congress further produced Isa Umar Kakara Zaki as treasurer, Zulaihat D. Mallam as women leader, Haruna Yakubu Jagaban Dass as auditor, and Hamza Abubakar Giade as financial secretary.
Others are Abdullahi Abdulkareem Mai Kare as youth leader and Barrister Yahaya A. Garkuwa as legal adviser.
However, the emergence of the new leadership highlights the deepening crisis within the Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Another faction of the party, loyal to the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, reportedly recognises Sama’ila Adamu Burga as the authentic state chairman.
The development has effectively left the party in the state with two parallel leadership structures, further intensifying internal tensions ahead of forthcoming general elections.
