Ebonyi Governor, Nwifuru Suspends Two Commissioners
by Rachel Okporu Fadoju · Naija NewsThe Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended the state Commissioner for Health, Moses Ekuma and his Housing and Urban Development counterpart, Francis Ori.
Naija News learnt that the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.
Okpor said the commissioners were suspended on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki, the state capital, citing cases of gross misconduct.
The statement read, “Following cases of gross misconduct and dereliction of duties by some government officials and matters related thereto, the Chairman of Council directed the indefinite suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development and three months suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Health.”
Recall that six employees of the Ebonyi State Ministry of Health, were arrested for allegedly stealing government property.
Naija News gathered that the suspects were caught on Saturday night at the ministry’s premises while attempting to transport the stolen items for sale.
The information was revealed on Sunday in a press statement issued by the Governor Francis Nwifuru‘s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
The statement revealed that the Governor has ordered their prosecution, describing the act as sabotage against the state’s health sector.
The governor, addressing the situation at the scene, condemned the act as a sabotage against the government’s initiatives to improve the health sector.
