The presidency has stated that the security situation plaguing the country is giving President Bola Tinubu sleepless nights.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), Abdulillahi Yakassai, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday.
He stated that the fight against insurgency has become more challenging because insurgents have adopted guerrilla warfare.
Speaking further, Yakassai cited some states where, he said, insecurity has drastically reduced.
He, however, said the government is doing its best to bring the menace to an end.
2. Adelabu Apologizes To Nigerians Over Poor Power Supply
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has apologized to Nigerians over the nationwide power outages that citizens have been experiencing.
The Minister assured that measures are being implemented to address the situation and promised that there will be noticeable improvements in the electricity supply within the coming weeks.
He described the power outages as temporary, but acknowledged that they have caused hardship for the citizens.
Naija News reports that Adelabu tendered the apology on Tuesday during a press conference in Abuja, as public frustration continues to mount over erratic electricity supply amid rising temperatures.
The minister acknowledged the impact of the outages on homes and businesses, particularly during the dry season when electricity demand for cooling has surged.
Despite the current challenges, the Minister assured Nigerians that efforts are underway to restore a stable power supply.
According to him, electricity supply is expected to begin improving within the next two weeks, following commitments from gas suppliers and ongoing repairs on critical infrastructure.
3. 2027: Labour Party Zones Presidential Ticket To South
The Labour Party (LP) has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, effectively ruling out aspirants from Northern Nigeria from contesting for the position on its platform.
The Chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Senator Nenadi Usman, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja after a consultative meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Usman said the decision was part of the party’s strategy to provide clarity for prospective aspirants ahead of the next general elections.
Despite the zoning arrangement, Usman emphasised that the party would still follow democratic processes in selecting its candidate.
4. El-Rufai Denied Bail As Court Adjourns Hearing
The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has been denied bail as the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna State has adjourned proceedings to March 31st, 2026.
Naija News reports that El-Rufai, who appeared in court on Tuesday, is being arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged money laundering.
During the hearing, which legal arguments were presented by both the prosecution and the defense, counsel to the defendant, Ukpon Akpan, urged the court to grant his client bail.
Akpan cited constitutional rights and the need to give El-Rufai adequate time to prepare his defense.
However, the prosecution opposed the application, arguing that the charges against the former Governor are serious and that granting bail could interfere with ongoing investigations.
5. Peter Obi Shouldn’t Have Been Allowed To Contest In 2023 – Ex-Judge
A former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Isa Ayo Salami (retd.), has said that former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, should not have been allowed to contest the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the Labour Party.
Naija News reports that Salami attributed the situation to what he described as incompetence among some members of the judiciary.
The retired jurist spoke in Ilorin, Kwara State, during a courtesy visit by officials of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, who presented him with an award at his residence.
Salami expressed concern about the appointment and promotion of judges without adequate regard for competence and experience.
According to the retired judge, Obi’s candidacy in the 2023 presidential election should have been disallowed based on constitutional provisions.
6. Give Your Information To The Military – Presidency Knocks Ndume
The Presidency has asked Nigerian lawmaker, Senator Ali Ndume, to provide intelligence on the alleged planned attack in Borno State.
Naija News reports that Ndume had warned that the entire North East could be overtaken by terrorists if the military is not adequately equipped.
However, speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the government has been equipping the armed forces to combat terrorism.
He stressed that both the military and the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) are actively engaged in operations to safeguard the North East and Nigerians.
Onanuga urged the long-serving senator to provide the military with any intelligence he might have regarding planned terrorist attacks, rather than raising public alarms.

Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has dismissed plans to incorporate Western sounds to appeal to international audiences.

Nollywood actress Debbie Shokoya has addressed a viral story claiming that singer Obesere is her biological father.
Naija News reports that the rumours emerged over the weekend that Debbie had revealed the truth after years of keeping it private.
Debbie, however, shared a video on her Instagram page on Monday to clarify the situation.
She stated that she has never met Obesere and that the claims about her parentage are false.
She expressed frustration over the story spreading online and called on bloggers and social media users to stop sharing untrue information.
The actress also reminded the public that she looks like her own father and that the reports linking her to Obesere are completely untrue.
She urged everyone to verify information before posting and to stop spreading rumours about her personal life.
9. Mohamed Salah Says Goodbye To Liverpool
Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the season, bringing an end to a glittering nine-year stay at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah, 33, announced his decision in a video shared on social media, before the club followed up with an official statement confirming an agreement had been reached.
“Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell,” Salah said.
“I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”
Salah, who joined the Reds from AS Roma in June 2017, signed a new two-year contract as recently as April 2025. That deal was due to run until 2027, but both parties have now agreed to bring his departure forward by a year.
Reflecting on his time on Merseyside, the Egypt international spoke of a deep connection with the club and its supporters.
10. Fulham’s Alex Iwobi Robbed At Knifepoint
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has been left shaken after a burglary at his home, with valuables estimated at £500,000 reportedly stolen.
According to Daily Sports, Alex Iwobi, who currently plays for Fulham, was held at knifepoint during the incident as attackers forced their way in. The intruders allegedly made off with luxury wristwatches, jewellery, two iPhones and a MacBook.
Iwobi is also believed to have had about £200,000 in cash on him at the time, which was said to have been taken.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the robbery.
The incident comes just days after the 29-year-old Nigerian international featured for Fulham in their 3-1 Premier League win over Burnley.
