Defection: Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Seriake Dickson Meet In Bauchi

by · Naija News

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, his Oyo State counterpart Seyi Makinde, and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, are currently meeting in Bauchi.

Naija News reports that the meeting comes amid speculation that Bala Mohammed and Makinde, the only remaining governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are planning to dump the party due to the protracted leadership crisis rocking the opposition party.

Although the reason for the meeting was not immediately ascertained, it may not be unconnected to preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Recall that Senator Seriake Dickson recently defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress  (NDC).

Meanwhile, a report has disclosed that Bala Mohammed, has yet to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) because he has not reached an agreement with the party.

A source in the APC told Daily Trust that no consultations have been held with either the governor or his associates on the matter.

He asserted that rumours of the governor’s defection remain within the realm of speculation.

When the aforementioned publication contacted the state’s Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammad Hassan Tilde, he said, “You know such a defection always starts from the national level. You’d better contact our stakeholders at the national level to get the information.

“At the state level, we have not received any information to that effect. We are still waiting to hear from either our national headquarters or the governor himself.”

A source also disclosed that the Bauchi governor is currently not concerned about his political future but about protecting the interests of those who have been loyal to him.
