Ayeyarwady River water level expected to rise by up to five feet in eight towns during third week of May

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) has announced that water level of the Ayeyarwady River is expected to rise by between two and five feet above current levels in eight towns during the third 10-day period of May.

According to the department’s river water forecast, the Ayeyarwady River is likely to rise significantly in Myitkyina, Bhamo, Shwegu, Katha, Thabeikkyin, Mandalay, Sagaing, and Myinmu. Meanwhile, water levels in Pakokku, Nyaung-U, Chauk, Minbu, Magway, Aunglan, Pyay, Seiktha, Hinthada, and Zalun are expected to fall by about half a foot to one foot below current levels.

The Chindwin River is forecast to rise by two to four feet in Khamti, Homalin, Phaungbyin, and Mawlaik, while water levels in Kalewa, Mingin, Kani, and Monywa could increase by around half a foot to one foot.

The Myittha River in Kalay is expected to rise by about two feet. Water levels on the Dokhtawady River in Hsipaw, Shwesaryan, and Myitnge may increase by around half a foot to one foot.

The Sittaung River is forecast to rise by one to two feet in Taungoo and Madauk, while the Shwegyin River in Shwegyin could rise by about half a foot. The Bago River is expected to increase by one to three feet in Zaungtu and Bago.

In addition, the Thanlwin River in Hpa-An may rise by about two feet, while the Thaungyin River in Myawaddy is forecast to increase by around one foot. The Ngawon River in Thabaung and Pathein, the Toe River in Maubin, and the Bilin River in Bilin are also expected to rise by about one foot above current levels.

However, the Ngawon River in Ngathaing Chaung is expected to fall by around one foot below its current level, according to the department’s statement.
