1,476 Myanmar nationals detained in Malaysia to be repatriated
· Eleven Media Group Co., LtdMyanmar will repatriate 1,476 of its nationals detained in Malaysia on Sept. 28 and 29, after an earlier plan for Aug. 27 and 28 was postponed at Malaysia’s request, the Ministry of Information said.
The Myanmar nationals had been detained at immigration detention centres after serving penalties for illegal residence and other immigration violations. The two governments had been coordinating their return aboard Myanmar military vessels.
Myanmar previously repatriated 1,086 nationals from Malaysian immigration detention centres in 2021 under a humanitarian arrangement between the two countries.
Myanmar’s Foreign Ministry said its embassies and consulates continue to provide consular assistance to citizens facing difficulties overseas and help facilitate their return to the country.
