Yangon Region Private Transport Supervisory Committee (YRTC) Vice Chairman U Chit Ko Ko said that an awareness seminar is being held twice a month due to the increasing number of drivers who violate the rules.

He made the remarks at an awareness seminar for YBS drivers held by the YRTC at the YRTC headquarters on May 7.

YRTC Vice Chairman U Chit Ko Ko said that about 1.7 million passengers are transported daily by 3,700 vehicles and about 7,500 YBS drivers. He said that the awareness seminar is being held twice a month due to the increasing number of YBS drivers who violate the rules. The people who safely transport passengers to their destinations every day are also the YBS drivers. The most important people in the YBS world should not be those who violate the rules.

They are the most important people in ensuring traffic safety on public roads. When taking action against violations, the management committee meets every Tuesday to review the records of violations. When loading and unloading passengers at YBS vehicles, the doors must be closed before the bus started. If YBS vehicles overtake each other on the roads, drive in the opposite direction, run red lights, or drive beyond the specified speed limit, and cause a collision and death, the YRTC will permanently suspend the driver and remove him from the team. When taking action, the YRTC monitors and takes action using high-tech telematics devices and CCTV records from the Traffic Control Center. It checks for drug use and strictly enforces the action based on solid evidence. By reducing greed and following instructions, accidents can be prevented and the number of deaths will decrease, he said.

A total of 100 YBS drivers who violated the rules attended the seminar.
