Two-storey residential building used for online scam operations demolished in Shwe Kokko

A two-storey residential building that had been used for online scam operations was demolished in Shwe Kokko, Karen State, on July 1 as part of the ongoing crackdown on cybercrime infrastructure, authorities said.

The demolition is part of a coordinated operation by government agencies to permanently dismantle illegal buildings in the Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas of Myawady Township that were used as bases for online scam and illegal gambling activities. Authorities are also systematically destroying equipment and materials used in the criminal operations.

According to officials, the latest demolition involved a two-storey residential building in the Shwe Kokko area, which was brought down in a controlled operation.

Authorities said a total of 77 buildings linked to online scam operations have been identified in the Shwe Kokko area. Of these, 57 buildings are scheduled for demolition using heavy machinery, while the remaining 20 will be destroyed through controlled explosions, depending on their structure and location.

The building demolished on July 1 was one of the 57 structures designated for demolition using heavy equipment, officials added.

To date, the joint teams of the departments have demolished a total of 67 buildings used to commit online gambling fraud, and will continue to demolish 10 illegal buildings that remain to be demolished.
