The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon! Tie for Most Tony Nominations
by Jason P. Frank · VULTUREThe Tony Award nominations are bringing the definitive answer to the best of Broadway this year. The 2025–2026 season was an odd one. Whereas the previous season had 14 brand-new musicals debut on Broadway, and 14 new plays, this season featured just six new musicals and nine new plays. Meanwhile, there were five musical revivals and ten play revivals for a total of just 30 eligible works. That’s a significant decrease from last year’s total of 42 and the lowest total since Broadway first returned in 2022, after the COVID lockdown.
Still, the stakes are as high as ever for the shows that are competing. Two musicals — teen-vampire spectacle The Lost Boys and theater parody Schmigadoon! — pulled ahead and each scored 12 nominations, tying for the lead. They were joined in the best musical category by Titaníque and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York). The play category was dominated by two revivals. Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman scored nine nominations, while Oedipus took home seven. Still, “most nominations” doesn’t always translate into “most wins.”
Below, find out who will compete at the actual ceremony, hosted by P!nk, will be on June 6.
