Disney Hath Slain the Live-Action Robin Hood

by · VULTURE

For the furries, Disney giveth (Zootopia 2) and Disney taketh away. After six years of crickets, the live-action Robin Hood is officially dead and buried in Kirklees Priory. During a Reddit AMA, Blindspotting director Carlos López Estrada said Disney was no longer moving forward with his Robin Hood. “It’s dead, sadly,” he said. “I say sadly because I actually thought there was something really special (and original!) there. Some truly extraordinary music we had figured out for it.”

Disney announced plans for a “live-action” Robin Hood à la their Lion King remake in 2020. IE: a CGI remake by any other name. Kari Granlund, who also wrote the 2019 Lady and the Tramp remake, was set to write it. And the producer of live-action Dumbo was producing. No casting news had leaked in the six years since the film was announced, which should have been a giveaway it was dead in the water.

López Estrada said there’s still some hope for his version of Hood. “I keep daydreaming about doing it independently with different characters,” he said on Reddit. Hey, that guy is well into the public domain. Just gotta make him some other, legally distinct animal. A goose? Wait, he’s a a goose in the Disney movie too…
