Madonna Is Bringing a 10-Minute Confessions II Film to Tribeca

Madonna is bringing a “cinematic presentation” associated with her upcoming album Confessions II to the Tribeca Film Festival. Per a press release, the work is over ten minutes long and includes parts of the first six songs on Confessions II. Two of those songs are out so far: “I Feel So Free” and “Bring Your Love,” with Sabrina Carpenter. Directed by David Toro and Solomon Chase, the film will screen at the festival on June 12. After the screening, Madonna and the directors will sit for a conversation led by late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon. Will this “conversation” mostly consist of Fallon falling out of his chair laughing at something Madonna says? Only time will tell.

This is Madonna’s second time at Tribeca. Her first was for the premiere of the documentary I Am Because We Are, which she produced, wrote, and narrated. It followed orphans in Malawi whose parents had died of AIDS. The film premiered at the seventh Tribeca Festival in 2008.

Her newer entry is much different in tone. “A film that gives physicality to the music, Confessions II lives in the tension between control and surrender, between being seen and disappearing into a crowd,” the press release states. “Each song unfolds across six chapters, each one a sexy thriller, a dance delusion, an epic fever dream. Like the album, it blurs distinction between tracks, building cosmic narratives that follow a twisted dream logic.” Can’t wait to hear Jimmy Fallon’s questions about Madonna’s cosmic narrative.
