Jon Bon Jovi’s Voice Will Make It, He Swears

by · VULTURE

He’s not even halfway there — he made it all the way and we’re proud. Weeks away from his band’s big return to the stage, Jon Bon Jovi has revealed that people don’t have to worry about the quality of his voice, which had been in poor form for several years following a vocal-cord surgery in 2022. “I’m fully recovered,” he told People. “It was longer than I’d ever expected, but it had to be right. We never lost faith.” Prior to the surgery, Jon wasn’t sure if he would be able to perform again, and he was given no clarity about what caused the vocal strain. He allowed cameras to follow him during his recovery process for the band’s 2024 documentary, Thank You, Goodnight. “I’d often joked and said the only thing that’s ever been up my nose was my finger,” Jon explained. “I never did anything to hurt the cords; I didn’t have any excesses. I’m a trained vocalist. I’ve practiced the craft. So when a doctor had to explain to me that one of the cords was literally atrophying, it was confusing.” He also credited his Bon Jovi bandmates for getting him through the difficult period, all of whom “never doubted me and never looked for work or decided to retire.” To celebrate, let’s all meet around exit 124 on the Garden State Parkway.
