Travis Kelce Named As Victim in $35 Million Ponzi Scheme
by Bethy Squires · VULTUREYou’ll never guess the name of the Ponzi scheme Travis Kelce reportedly fell victim to. Siddharth Jawahar was sentenced to 11 years in prison today for wire fraud relating to his investment company Swiftarc Capital LLC. According to The Guardian, Kelce was named by the prosecutor as one of the victims of Swiftarc, though it is not known when he invested and how much he lost. Jawahar began taking money in 2015, pretending to represent a diverse portfolio, but instead only put $10 million of the $35 million raised into one single investment, which dropped in value. He then used new investors to pay off the old. Where did the other $25 million go? To fund what prosecutors called his “extravagant lifestyle” of private jets, fine dining, and members-only clubs. Did he eat at 1587 Prime?
Kelce’s assets still seem pretty liquid. Ahead of their lavish wedding at Madison Square Garden, Kelce and Taylor Swift donated $26 million to charities in New York, Missouri, and Tennessee. Add to that the $160,000 in permits and whatever it cost to actually turn the Garden into, well, a garden. Money is also coming in, especially with NFL season kicking off. On Monday, Kelce and the Chiefs faced off against the Denver Broncos. Swift and Tom Cruise were in attendance. Earlier this month, Kelce’s Tommy Hilfiger ad dropped in which he daps up everyone at the Plaza Hotel. How very Eloise of him.
