Baripada: Around 35 lakh women received the first instalment money in their bank accounts under the Odisha government’s ambitious Subhadra Yojana following second phase disbursement on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi released the amount of Rs 5,000 each to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries at an event held at the Chau Ground in Baripada. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and other dignitaries were also present at the event.

Jubilant over receipt of the first instalment, a woman said she will utilise the money to start a small business and make her self-sufficient. “I am delighted after getting the assistance money,” said another beneficiary.

Notably, introduction of Subhadra Yojana was one of the major promises made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for women in its election manifesto in Odisha. Prime Minister Modi had launched the ambitious Subhadra scheme on his birthday on September 17 this year. On that day, as many as 2500011 women received Rs 5,000 in their bank accounts.

Under the scheme, each beneficiary will receive Rs 10,000 per year in two installments of Rs 5,000 each one on Rakhi Purnima, and the other on International Women’s Day (March 8) for five years. They will get Rs 50,000 in five years under Subhadra Yojana.

Women, who were excluded from the first phase of the disbursement due to various reasons, received the amount in the second phase. Those who had successfully submitted applications by October 7 received the money in their bank accounts today.

More than one crore beneficiaries have already registered for the Subhadra scheme so far.

The scheme is being implemented within 2024-25 and 2028-29 financial years. The state government has made an outlay of Rs 55, 825 crore for this purpose.
