New Delhi: A Delhi Police constable was allegedly crushed to death by a car in a suspected road rage incident at Nangloi in North-West Delhi.

The incident took place in the wee hours at around 3 am.

“A constable was killed as he was crushed by a car in a road rage incident in the Nagloi area last night after he asked the car driver to move the car. The constable was allegedly dragged for 10 meters and hit another car. The police have seized the car while the accused is absconding,” the Delhi Police said in a statement.

According to police sources, Sandeep, a constable at the Nangloi police station, received information about a car carrying illicit liquor. He came out of the police station and signalled a car to stop. There are conflicting reports about what exactly happened at this point. Some news reports suggest that the car did not stop but hit him, crushing him to death.

The Delhi Police statement suggests that the car stopped and it was searched. On finding no liquor inside, the constable asked the driver to move the car. Instead of moving his car safely, he hit the constable and dragged him for some distance, inflicting grievous injuries resulting in his death.

The driver abandoned the car and fled the spot following the accident. The police have launched a manhunt to arrest the driver.
