Bhagwat says Bharat’s ‘destiny’ is to show unity can coexist with diversity

PM Modi begins four-day Central Asia trip with Uzbekistan visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his four-day Central Asia visit on Saturday with a meeting with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent. The two sides pledged to deepen cooperation across trade, tourism, health, energy and defence. Modi, who is on a two-day state visit to Uzbekistan, will travel to Bishkek for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit on August 31-September 1.

Former ICSSR chief J K Bajaj calls for 25-year extension of delimitation freeze

Former ICSSR chairman J K Bajaj, a member of the Justice G Rohini Commission on OBC sub-categorisation, has called for extending the freeze on delimitation for at least another 25 years. He said the federal principle should take precedence over “one person, one vote, one value” until population stabilises across states, which he expects to happen in three to four decades.

Gas pipeline leak triggers traffic diversion on Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra

A gas leak from a GAIL pipeline near Maharashtra’s Samruddhi Expressway in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district prompted authorities to divert traffic on a 24-km stretch of the highway. The leak was reported near Takliwadi in Gangapur taluka around 5 pm on Saturday. GAIL experts shut valves on both sides of the affected section to gradually reduce pressure and deployed firefighting equipment as a precaution. Traffic between Hadas Pimpalgaon and Maliwada was diverted via the Dhule-Solapur highway.
