PL Thenappan on re-releasing Rajinikanth's Padayappa

In a recent interview, actor-producer PL Thenappan said, "Even today, Rajinikanth's films like Padayappa and Baasha have immense rewatch value. My personal favourites are Velaikkaran, Baasha and Thalapathi. When Thalapathi was released, I was working as a manager on Gunaa, which opened alongside it. Despite that, I went to watch the first-day, first show of Thalapathi. I hadn't spoken much to Rajinikanth sir since Padayappa. We reconnected during Jailer 2, and that was when he asked me to handle the worldwide re-release of Padayappa. I took care of the release, and it became a huge success. He gifted me a chain, which I still wear today. These days, films are readily available on OTT platforms. In a recent interview, actor-producer PL Thenappan said, "Superstar Rajinikanth gave me an opportunity to act in a scene in Muthu, and now I have appeared in a scene in Jailer 2. He hasn't changed at all. He treats everyone with the same respect, whether it's a light technician, producer, director or assistant director. He treats everyone equally. There is no negativity in him. He speaks positively to everyone and never says a bad word about anyone. Jailer 2 is a film made for today's audience. In this digital age, people enjoy pan-Indian films, and Nelson has made one such film. Every star is willing to share screen space with Rajinikanth because he is the only superstar of his stature in India. I was nervous about acting alongside Rajinikanth sir, even for a single scene. Nelson asked me why I was so scared. He took care of everything and helped me perform the tea shop scene. Nelson has a relaxed approach to filmmaking, and everyone feels comfortable on his sets."

Jailer 2 review: Viewer calls Rajinikanth-starrer ‘pure fan service’, criticises second half and cameos

Reddit user @Particular_Aide_951 shared a take on Jailer 2 and wrote, "I guess I am one of the few who is not impressed with Jailer 2. First half was the usual Nelson trademark which works well most of the time ... I was actually looking forward to the first half villain betraying SJ surya family. That would have been something new to look forward to but what we get after interval in the first 5 minutes is the rugged villain's head gets chopped off and boom there is kidnapping back and forth and unnecessary cameos. What could have made the second half worth while is the villain turning into a comic characterwtrying to betray his bossawith Rajinikanth being the wirepuller. But no, ultimately fan appeasement and mass bgms rule today's cinema. Thought fima like Modha rathiri have refined people's taste but we eventually fall into the same muck. Pure fan service has become the agenda."
