India vs Pakistan Highlights, Hockey World Cup 2026: IND beat PAK 5-3, through to 2nd round

It was a goal fest but India stayed calm in the final quarter and saw themselves over the finish line. India are thus through to the second round of the World Cup, Pakistan have been knocked out.

India beat Pakistan 5-3 in a thriller of a match to go through to the second round of the 2026 Hockey World Cup. Pakistan, conversely, have been knocked out. India dominated the first quarter but Pakistan went toe-to-toe in the second and third. There were as many as four goals shared equally between the two sides in nine minutes in the second quarter. India needed to win or draw this match to go through to the second round.

India were utterly dominant in the first quarter, with Harmanpreet Singh and Abhishek scoring to give them a 2-0 lead at the end of it. Harmanpreet scored almost immediately at the start of the second quarter but Shahid Hannan scored Pakistan’s first goal of the match to reduce the gap with India back to two. Abhishek then scored another but Pakistan got one back with Sufyan Khan converting a penalty corner. India then restored their three-goal lead again with Hardik Singh scoring from a penalty stroke. Shahid Hannan then scored again early in the final quarter and that was the way it ended.

So, India and England are through to the second round where they will be placed in Pool E. Unless there are any giant upsets in Pool A, the other two teams in their pool are likely to be the Netherlands and Argentina.
