While Abhay lost 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 to Eain Yow Ng, the 18-year-old Anahat was defeated 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 by Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam. The two medals mean India’s tally for the Aichi-Nagoya Asiad rose to 32, but their gold medal count is stuck at four. The Indian squash contingent has earned India three medals at the 2026 Asian Games.
Meanwhile, Sarvesh Kushare won silver in men’s high jump, ending India’s 56 year of wait of medal in the event. Tejaswin Shankar won bronze in men’s decathlon. Ancy Sojan won a dramatic silver in women’s high jump in which Chinese jumpers prevented a double podium for India. China’s Huang Yingying jumped 6.55m with her last attempt to overtake Ancy for the gold medal and then her compatriot Tan Mengyi jumped 6.46m in her last attempt to push Shaili Singh down to fourth and snatch the bronze medal away from her. Parul Chaudhary creates national record of 9:08.67s to win bronze medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase event. Harita Bhadra won bronze in women’s 200m.

Sarvesh Kushare
Sarvesh Anil Kushare is one of India's leading high jumpers and a multiple-time national champion. Born on 17 June 1995 in Devargaon village near Nashik, Maharashtra, he began his athletics journey under the guidance of coach R. W. Jadhav, who played a key role in developing his talent in the high jump. Sarvesh has consistently been among India's top high jumpers for over a decade and has represented India at major international competitions.

Asian Games Day 9 Live: Pritish Raj on Tejaswin's bronze
Indian decathlete Tejaswin Shankar tried his best in the 1500m race and despite winning it with a timing of 4:33.09, he finished with a bronze medal in the men's decathlon.
This is his second medal at the Asian Games after he had won the silver medal at the last edition.
Tejaswin finished with 7934 points while Yuma Maruyama of Japan won with 8123 points and Chen Xinghua of China won with 8012 points.
While he couldn't upgrade his silver from last time, this year's Decathlon was more competitive than last edition where Tejaswin had won silver with 7666 points and gold had gone to Sun Qihao of China with 7816 points.
This is the second major medal of the season for Tejaswin, who won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games and also became the first-ever Indian to break the 8000 points mark with a new national record of 8057 points.
Tejaswin had a poor start to Day one after he clocked 10.98s in the 100m far away from his personal best and earned 865 points.
He topped the long jump with 7.53m and 942 points but it was way behind his personal best of 7.82m that he recorded at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
Similarly, he recorded 13.16m in shot put with 677 points before opening a big lead for himself in high jump with 2.18m jump and 973 points.
With 881 points in the 400m, he finished the first day at the top of the leaderboard.
On the second day, he recorded a new personal best in the javelin throw with 53.37m but performed poorly in the discus throw with 36.77m.
Nevertheless, Tejaswin ended a highly successful season for himself with two major medals, a national record and 8000 points mark breached.

In men's high jump, Sarvesh Kushare is in gold medal position after having four jumps, with a mark of 2.22m. There is a DNS marked against former Olympic champion Mutaz Barsham, which suddenly makes Kushare one of the top contenders for gold and thus far, he remains at the top of the pile.
It has to be said, though, that Korea's Sanghyeok and CHinese Taipei's Chao-hsuan Fu also jumped 2.22m right after Kushare cleared that mark. Kushare remains ahead of the pair in the top spot as he is yet to make a foul jump.

Well, the second quarter turned out to be the opposite of the first, although only on paper. The Singaporeans still did a fairly good job of denying India too many goals from the numerous PCs they have won but the gold medallists have been so relentless that they scored five goals inspite of that. Captain Salima Tete started the scoring in the 17th minute, Sunelita Toppo then scored in the 22nd and 24th minute and then Lalremsiami in the 26th minute. First complaining voices out - from China
No country has been spared by the schedule for singles in Round of 32 and 16, played on same day and Quarters within 12 hours, in some cases like PV Sindhu and Jonatan Christie. The schedule also ensured that both Chinese Men's singles shuttlers were out before Quarters. The first voices of protest have come from the Chinese.
Women's doubles World No 1 Tan Ning told Chinese media in mixed zone, "I feel the schedule is unfair. We went to make official complaint but the chief referee didnt do anything about it. But when the Japan team complained, they actually changed the time schedule."
The turnaround times for doubles have also been punishing, but singles, especially the 4 teams playing the Team Event that got over on Thursday, have suffered the most from lack of recovery.
In India, both Sindhu and Unnati Hooda, played 3 matches inside 26 hours, including two each against Top Tenners. The hotel was 2 hours away. Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty, who featured in Team semis, also lost early.
Singapore smartly never bothered fielding its squad in the team event, and a fresh Loh Kean Yew ran through Sen in the third set. Chou Tien Chen who beat Ayush Shetty also wasn't in semis contention till Thursday.
India's singles player HS Prannoy had tweeted how the medal ceremony went on till 11 pm the night before the doubles got underway.
Korean singles bucked the trend. But they barely turn out on the circuit and arrived rested for the Asian Games - ranked outside of 30, but fresh. That's one way to go about it.

Asian Games Day 9 Live: Fencing update
India's underwhelming fencing campaign at the Asian Games ended after the women's sabre team lost to Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals here on Sunday.
C A Bhavani Devi, Shreya Gupta and Jefarlin Simla went down 35-45 to their Uzbek counterparts at Aichi Sky Expo Hall F.
India had earlier defeated Indonesia 45-23 in the round of 16, but struggled to maintain the momentum against a strong Uzbekistan side in the last eight.
The loss brought the curtains down on India's underwhelming campaign in the fencing competition with the none of the athletes reaching the medals round. India had fielded a 20-member squad for the continental event.

But the gulf widens as you dig deeper. The Malaysian has the wood over Abhay, shown by a 7-0 head-to-head record dating back to 2016.

She belongs to the fabulously high-achieving community of Malaysians of Tamil-descent in racquet sports.
She hails from Sungai Petani, Kedah where her Tamil-ethnicity Malaysian parents, Valli Nagappan and Subramaniam Kaniappan, were born.
Sivasangari (pr: See-vuh-saang-ary) became Malaysia's youngest national champion, which is mind-boggling given it is the land of the most prodigious, most prolific, and coolest squash player of all time. Also GOAT. Nicol David.
Nicol David -- reigned before the Egyptians arrived and started ruling. Indian legend Joshna Chinappa, who completed her set of medals with mixed doubles bronze yesterday and has medalled at each edition since 2010 (5th) is entitled to wonder if the Olympics call-up for squash could've come sooner, and so will Nicol David.
But guess who else grew up around Tamil and Squash, besides Joshna... And Dipika Pallikal. And now Sivasangari ? Nicol David !!!
Nicol's mother at Penang - Ann Marie David, is a retired Malaysian Chinese school teacher of Hokkien-Hakka descent. Her father is Desmond David, a Malaysian Indian engineer.... (you guessed it right)... of Tamil descent.
Sivasangari continues the glorious tradition. Racquet sports in Malaysia owes it to this ethnically diverse and tremendously talented Tamil-origin community.
It's not just squash.
The pair handing out the loss to Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand in badminton, has Thinaah Muralitharan.
Born to S Muralitharan and Parimala Devi Kalalingam in Klang, Selangor, Thinaah followed sister Selinah into badminton. She grew up speaking all four of Makaysia's main languages, Tamil, Malay, English and Mandarin.

He slept under train seats for kabaddi. Now he has two Asian Games gold medals
When he was in his early teens, Aslam Inamdar would scavenge discarded bottles and sell them to scrap dealers to afford a meal. He would travel across Maharashtra to play kabaddi tournaments, sleeping under train seats, boarding trains without tickets, surviving on vada pav or whatever food he could find. Sometimes he would save leftover tournament food in his bag to eat later, even after it had gone bad.
