Kerala Rain Live Updates: 3 killed in floods, landslides, red alert for 7 districts

Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding and blocked roads across Idukki and Kottayam districts.

At least three people were killed in separate landslides in Kerala on Saturday as torrential rain continued to lash the state. In Idukki’s Adoormala, a landslide flattened a house, killing 1 woman people. Rescue teams are meanwhile continuing search operations in nearby Vagamon, where people are feared trapped under debris. Ranni in Pathanamthitta district remains among the worst-hit areas.

Red alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds on Saturday. As a precaution, authorities have opened the shutters of several minor dams, also declared school holidays in affected districts and urged residents in landslide and flood-prone areas.

Flood situation: Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding and blocked roads across Idukki and Kottayam districts. Landslides disrupted traffic on several routes, including the Kochi–Dhanushkodi National Highway, while overflowing rivers submerged causeways and homes in Erattupetta, Koottickal and nearby areas. Emergency teams have been deployed to evacuate stranded residents as rescue operations continue.

Pamba river overflows, Ranni flooded

Heavy rainfall spurred flash floods in the hilly regions of Pathanamthitta on Saturday, causing the Pamba River to overflow and inundate parts of Ranni town. With water levels rising rapidly, district authorities, emergency response teams launched rescue operations to evacuate affected residents.

Kallarkutty dam opened as reservoir reaches full capacity

Amid heavy rainfall in Kerala, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) on Saturday opened all five shutters of the Kallarkutty Dam in Idukki district after the reservoir reached its full storage capacity. The shutters have been raised by six feet to release excess water.

Woman killed in Idukki landslide, rescue operations underway
