The Founding President and Chief Executive Officer of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Franklin Cudjoe, has been appointed to Ghana’s Joint National-United Nations Steering Committee (JSC).

The committee is the highest strategic oversight body responsible for guiding the design and implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).

The appointment comes as Ghana and the United Nations begin preparations for the next Cooperation Framework covering the period 2027 to 2030.

The framework will serve as the main strategic document through which the UN system aligns its support with Ghana’s development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In a statement, IMANI said the committee will provide strategic direction for the process and ensure that the cooperation framework responds to Ghana’s changing development needs.

The Joint National-UN Steering Committee is co-chaired by the Minister for Finance, Dr Ato Forson, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator.

Its membership includes representatives from government ministries and agencies, UN bodies, development partners, the private sector, civil society organisations and minority groups.

The committee’s responsibilities include reviewing progress of the Cooperation Framework, identifying development challenges, supporting coordination among stakeholders, promoting accountability and guiding resource mobilisation efforts.

It will also oversee annual results reviews, Country Results Reports, independent evaluations and possible adjustments during the implementation period.

The next Ghana-UN Cooperation Framework will involve national and sub-national consultations, coordination among UN agencies, strategic planning sessions, development of results frameworks and resource mobilisation planning before implementation begins in 2027.
