Person killed as fire tears through home in Auckland's Onehunga
· RNZA person has died in a large house fire in the Auckland suburb of Onehunga.
Fire and Emergency were called to the blaze on Trafalgar Street about 7.20am on Friday.
Earlier, police said that several people were able to evacuate the house, but one person was missing.
Fire and Emergency NZ acting assistant commander Kenton Rusbridge said the body of the missing person was found inside the property.
Cordons are up on Trafalgar Street between Pleasant Street and Forbes Street and is expected to to stay closed for the day.
Five FENZ units responded to the blaze.
St John were also alerted.
Earlier, a woman described seeing heavy black smoke erupting from the property.
Kat Korunić said she heard lots of sirens and went to investigate.
She said there was a lot of smoke coming from the roof of the house.
Members of the public were advised to avoid the area while emergency services work at the scene.
