Police investigate after rider dies in Hunter Valley crash
by Simon McCarthy · Newcastle HeraldPolice have seized a motorcycle after a crash outside Dungog resulted in the death of its rider at the weekend.
Officers said in a statement on Sunday, September 13, that the 69-year-old had been travelling with a riding group Bingleburra Road at Bingleburra, about 17 kilometres outside Dungog, when he crashed into a safety barrier and was thrown from his mount.
Police and paramedics rushed to the scene about 11.50am on Saturday.
Paramedics saw the man there, but he died before he could be flown to hospital, police said.
Officers said his damaged motorcycle was seized for forensic examination, and a crime scene was established.
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash, and the man's death, was underway, police said.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
