A high-speed police pursuit is under way near Warners Bay.

NSW Police confirmed officers were called to a crash between a motorcycle and a car at Macquarie Road and Hillsborough Road about 10am on Tuesday.

The Newcastle Herald understands the vehicle involved in the crash may have left the scene resulting in a pursuit involving multiple highway patrol and unmarked police cars.

The motorcycle rider, a man in his 20s, has been taken to Belmont hospital suffering minor injuries.

Members of the public have reported seeing at least 10 police cars speeding through the suburbs on the way to the Warners Bay area.

It is unclear at this stage what vehicle the police are in pursuit of is.

Drivers are urged to use caution and avoid the area where possible. Contraflow traffic conditions are in place to allow motorists to pass in both directions.
