Lagos to host maiden entertainment and games awards in Sept

The ceremony is endorsed by the Lagos state government through the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC).
LEAGA is designed as a platform that promotes friendship, wellness, unity and collaboration within the entertainment industry through sports and recreational activities.
Speaking about the initiative, Muyiwa Osinaike, LEAGA’s lead convener, said the platform was created to encourage friendship and stronger bonding within the entertainment industry and other related sectors.

He added that the long-term vision is to grow “sportainment” beyond Lagos, positioning it as a global movement.
“LEAGA desires to promote friendship and bonding through recreational and sporting activities. Our greater vision is to support and promote “Sportainment in Lagos, Nigeria, Africa, and globally,” he said.
Lekan Fatodu, director general of the Lagos sports commission, commended the organisers of LEAGA for their contribution to sports development and promotion.

He said the initiative aligns with Lagos’ vision of using sports and recreation to engage young people and drive social development, while also helping to create a new lifestyle mix that blends sports with entertainment in the state.
“We commend the organisers of LEAGA for their contribution to sports development and promotion. The initiative aligns with Lagos State’s vision of using sports and recreation as tools for youth engagement and social development,” he said.
“More so, an opportunity to create and endear a fresh Lagos lifestyle blend of sports and entertainment.”
The event will feature both male and female competitions in sports such as football, basketball, athletics, table tennis, tennis, relay races, draughts, ayo olopon, as well as dance and fitness challenges.

The audience will also be entertained by performances and appearances from musicians, actors, comedians, DJs, media personalities and other key stakeholders in the creative industry.
The inaugural edition is dedicated to notable Nigerian icons including former footballer Segun Odegbami, musicologist Lazarus Ekwueme, playwright Wole Soyinka, sculptor Bruce Onabrakpeya and actress Taiwo Ajai-Lycett.
The event will then end with a grand awards and gala night to recognise outstanding contributions to the entertainment and creative industries.
