ADOR’s legal counsel withdraws from 32M USD lawsuit against Danielle
by hjang · allkpopThe legal battle between ADOR and former NewJeans member Danielle has reached a critical turning point as a massive 31.93 million USD (43.1 billion KRW) damages claim hangs in the balance. On April 24, 2026, the legal team from Kim & Chang, representing ADOR, abruptly submitted a notice of resignation to the court just three weeks before a major hearing. This sudden withdrawal has sparked intense criticism, with many labeling it a "strategic time-dragging" tactic designed to prolong the artist's forced hiatus.
According to the Seoul Central District Court, the resignation comes ahead of critical pleading dates scheduled for May 14 and July 2. The lawsuit was filed by ADOR against Danielle and former CEO Min Hee Jin. Legal experts have expressed surprise at the timing, noting that it is highly unusual for a major law firm to step down right before significant proceedings.
Danielle’s side maintains that this is a deliberate attempt to obstruct her return to the industry. Since notifying ADOR of her contract termination in December 2025, she has remained an independent agent, with her career facing significant damage due to the ongoing legal stalemate. During previous hearings, her legal team argued that "the longer the trial is delayed, the longer the artist’s hiatus becomes," asserting that the delay itself is a tool to block her professional path. If a new representative is appointed, a request to postpone the upcoming hearings is expected, as the new counsel would require time to review the vast amount of case records.
However, the court may choose to proceed regardless of the counsel change. Under civil litigation rules, a judge has the discretion to deny a request for a date change if they perceive it as an intentional delay. If the judge chooses to prioritize a "speedy trial," the hearing on May 14 could go forward as planned. If ADOR fails to present evidence or appoint new counsel by then, it could face a disadvantageous ruling or even a dismissal of the case. While other members like Hanni, Haerin, and Hyein have reportedly returned or are in discussions with ADOR, Danielle remains isolated in this multi-million dollar legal conflict, making the May 14 decision a potential watershed moment for her career.
