"The Roundup 5" confirms cast as Ma Dong Seok and Kim Jae Young begin filming
by Alec06 · allkpopThe fifth installment of Korea’s hit action franchise The Roundup has officially confirmed its cast lineup and began filming on the 24th.
Ma Dong Seok returns once again as monster detective Ma Seok Do in The Roundup 5, which follows the detective’s mission to take down Lee Kang Tae, a ruthless criminal behind a new wave of violent crimes.
In addition to starring, Ma Dong Seok also participated in the screenplay and production, continuing to lead the blockbuster franchise. Now promoted to head of the major crimes investigation unit, Ma Seok Do is expected to face an even more evolved criminal threat in the upcoming film.
Actor Kim Jae Young has been cast as the fifth-generation villain Lee Kang Tae. Following memorable antagonists played by Yoon Kye Sang, Son Suk Ku, Lee Jun Hyuk, and Kim Mu Yeol in previous installments, Kim Jae Young is expected to showcase a new side through the ruthless character who stops at nothing to achieve his goals.
The new cast also includes Seo Hyun Woo as detective Go Young Min, Lee Hak Joo as Lee Kang Tae’s associate Han Sang Gu, Baek Hyun Jin as investigation unit chief Kim Min Chul, and Kim Min Ho as Bul Dak.
Director Heo Myeong Haeng, who previously helmed the fourth film and served as the series’ action director, returns to lead the project.
The The Roundup franchise previously became the first Korean film series to produce three consecutive 10-million-ticket films and surpass a cumulative audience of 40 million moviegoers. The new installment is expected to continue the series’ legacy while delivering upgraded action and storytelling.
