Gong Seung Yeon appeared on ‘You Quiz on the Block’, but all mentions of her recent drama ‘Perfect Crown’ were notably edited out following the show’s ongoing historical distortion controversy.

During the May 21 KST broadcast of the tvN talk show, Gong Seung Yeon shared personal stories ranging from her close bond with younger sister Jeongyeon of TWICE to her seven-year trainee period under SM Entertainment.

However, her recent MBC drama ‘Perfect Crown’ was not mentioned at all during the final broadcast.

In previously released preview footage, host Yoo Jae Suk introduced Gong Seung Yeon by saying she had reached a new career peak 15 years after debut thanks to ‘Perfect Crown.’ Gong Seung Yeon had also commented in the teaser, “I’ll hop on the train with IU and Byeon Woo Seok too,” expressing excitement about the project.

But in the actual broadcast, Yoo Jae Suk simply described her as an actress “enjoying a career high 15 years after debut,” with the drama title completely omitted.

Viewers also noticed that the teaser caption reading “Reaching a career peak after 15 years through ‘Perfect Crown’” had been replaced in the broadcast with “The story of actress Gong Seung Yeon, whose acting was recognized after 15 years.”

Gong Seung Yeon portrayed the role of Yoon Yi Rang in the drama and received praise for her stable acting performance, which many believed led to her appearance on ‘You Quiz.’

Still, as ‘Perfect Crown’ became embroiled in controversy over alleged historical distortion, many interpreted the edits as an effort to distance the program from the issue. Her segment reportedly lasted only around 20 minutes, noticeably shorter than fellow guests Yoo Seung Mok and Rain, who each appeared for roughly 30 minutes.

The controversy surrounding ‘Perfect Crown’ intensified after Episode 11 featured a coronation scene in which Prince Ian, played by Byeon Woo Seok, wore a ceremonial crown associated with vassal rulers rather than emperors, while subjects shouted “Cheonse,” a term critics argued was historically inappropriate for an emperor of an independent nation.

Following the backlash, lead actors IU and Byeon Woo Seok both issued handwritten apologies through social media. Director Park Joon Hwa and writer Yoo Ji Won also released official apologies regarding the controversy.
