When his commanding officer asked if he would accept the visit, the singer chose to decline, stating that he simply did not want to see him. He further disclosed that he did not keep the letter his father had sent at the time. "I lacked the courage and the capacity to forgive," he admitted, explaining that even now, he does not feel he has the emotional breadth required for such a reconciliation.
