Global superstar G-Dragon has been named the official ambassador for the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which will be held in Busan this month.

The National Heritage Administration announced on July 3 that G-Dragon was selected for his significant global influence that extends beyond K-pop into the broader realms of culture and art. The agency highlighted his commitment to addressing social issues and spreading public culture through his artistic endeavors.

In his role as ambassador, G-Dragon will spearhead campaign activities to promote the protection of world heritage. His public interest organization, the Juspeace Foundation, which he established in 2024, will collaborate with UNESCO to launch the 'Heritage in Peace' campaign on July 10. The initiative aims to encourage citizens, corporations, and cities to participate in heritage preservation.

Donations raised through the campaign will be contributed to the UNESCO World Heritage Fund, supporting sites endangered by conflict, climate change, and natural disasters. G-Dragon is set to appear in promotional videos and at events to convey a message of "peace through culture and participation." A representative for the artist said, "World heritage is a common asset that all of humanity must protect together. We want to deliver a message of peace that many people can empathize with and act upon."

This marks the first time South Korea will host the World Heritage Committee since joining the convention 38 years ago. The main conference will take place in Busan from July 19 to July 29.
