JTBC completes payment of overdue appearance fees and production costs following court approval

by · allkpop

JTBC has completed the payment of overdue appearance fees, production costs, and other outstanding expenses.

On July 8, JTBC announced, "Payments for agency commissions and service fees had been delayed due to the court approval process. We received the court's approval last week and have now completed all payments."

The broadcaster also confirmed that payments for appearance fees related to several entertainment programs, as well as outstanding costs owed to external production companies, were finalized on the same day.

"We had no choice but to delay the payment schedule while awaiting the court's decision,"
JTBC said. "We sincerely apologize to our cast members and our business partners for the inconvenience."

JTBC declared a default on June 12 after failing to repay approximately 20.6 billion KRW (about 15 million USD) in securitized loans at maturity. Following the default, several affiliates under the JoongAng Group, including JTBC, JoongAng Holdings, ContentreeJoongAng, JoongAng P&I, and Megabox JoongAng, filed for court-supervised corporate rehabilitation.

Unlike the other four affiliates, however, JTBC also applied for the Autonomous Restructuring Support (ARS) program, which allows companies to pursue business normalization under creditor-led restructuring while rehabilitation proceedings are temporarily suspended. The court approved JTBC's ARS application on June 30.

Meanwhile, industry organizations have continued to voice concerns over the JoongAng Group's financial situation.

On July 6, the Korean Broadcasting Performers' Union urged JTBC to "seek ways to prioritize payment of actors' appearance fees, treating them similarly to wages."

On July 8, the Film Industry Solidarity also stressed that the unpaid settlement funds owed by Megabox JoongAng should receive priority repayment. The organization noted that the payments are essential to the film industry's financial ecosystem, flowing to production companies, distributors, investors, publicity and marketing firms, post-production studios, technical service providers, advertising and event agencies, and production staff.
