Choi Ji Woo is mourning the loss of her father.

According to reports on May 12, Choi Ji Woo’s father, Choi Woon Yong, passed away on May 11. The actress is currently staying with her family as they prepare to say their final farewell.

The funeral altar has been set up at a special funeral hall room at Haeundae Paik Hospital Funeral Hall in Busan. Choi Ji Woo is listed as chief mourner alongside her mother, older brother, husband, and young daughter as they receive visitors paying respects.

The late Choi Woon Yong, a former soldier, will be laid to rest following a funeral procession scheduled for the morning of May 14. He is expected to be buried at Daejeon National Cemetery after passing through Yeongnak Park.

The news has drawn even more sympathy because only days earlier, Choi Ji Woo had shared photos from a trip to Japan with her mother through social media, showing happy family moments together.

Since her debut in 1994, Choi Ji Woo has become one of Korea’s most beloved actresses, earning the nickname “Jiwoo-hime” across Asia through hit dramas including 'Winter Sonata'.

She married a non-celebrity husband nine years younger than her in 2018 and welcomed a daughter in 2020 at the age of 46.

Even after childbirth, Choi Ji Woo continued her entertainment activities, appearing as an MC on 'The Return of Superman' until October last year and returning to the big screen earlier this year through the film 'Sugar'.

Fans and fellow entertainers have continued sending messages of comfort and condolences following the sudden news.
