Cha Jun Hwan returns to acting after 17 years to lead new tvN sitcom
by hjang · allkpopFigure skater Cha Jun Hwan is set to return to acting after 17 years, taking on the lead role in a new tvN sitcom.
According to reports on June 7, 2026 (KST), he has been confirmed as the main character in tvN’s upcoming sitcom 'Palace Land'.
In the series, he will portray Seong Dae Han, a charming yet hapless character described as having a "perfect outward appearance but struggling in practical, everyday situations." He is confident in his looks and popularity but is ultimately an awkward, self-absorbed "adult-child" type who frequently uses his appearance to his advantage.
'Palace Land' is a workplace comedy set in an amusement park dormitory, following ordinary part-time workers who live and struggle together behind the scenes of a seemingly glamorous environment.
He previously appeared as a child actor before fully focusing on figure skating. He made his acting debut in 2006 in MBC's special drama 'Miracle', followed by a role in 'Night After Night' (2008) as the younger version of actor Park Ki Woong’s character, and later gained attention for portraying the younger version of actor Jung Il Woo in 'The Return of Iljimae' (2009).
He also previously expressed interest in returning to acting after retirement during a 2025 appearance on JTBC’s 'Knowing Bros', explaining that because he transitioned to skating early on, he felt he hadn't fully explored acting and would love to challenge himself again once his athletic career concludes.
'Palace Land' marks tvN’s first sitcom in 12 years since 'Blue Tower Returns' (2014). The series is directed by PD Yoo Hak Chan, known for variety programs such as 'The Romantic' and 'My Ear’s Candy', as well as dramas including 'Plus Nine Boys' and 'Top Star U-back'.
