Red Velvet's Joy prepares for a second life, pursues pet grooming license “If I can’t do this job, I need a skill”

Red Velvet member and actress Joy revealed that she is preparing for the future by challenging herself to earn a professional pet grooming license.

On May 12, MBC shared a preview clip from the variety show 'I Live Alone' through its official social media channels. Alongside the video, the broadcaster wrote, “Member nis fully focused as she practices cutting with scissors. She says she wants to obtain a certification because she has been thinking seriously about her future.”

In the preview, Joy visited a pet grooming academy to prepare for the certification exam. Explaining her motivation, she said, “If I can no longer continue this career, I thought it would be good to have a technical skill,” revealing that her decision came after careful consideration about her future.

Despite her busy schedule, Joy reportedly spent the past two months making dog wig models and practicing grooming techniques. “I’m good at it now. I only practiced scissor work,” she said confidently, showing off the skills she developed through consistent training.

However, the actual lessons proved to be far more difficult than expected. Joy admitted, “There are so many rules, and it’s completely different from the way we normally use scissors,” expressing how challenging professional grooming techniques can be. She also shared that instructors advised her to maintain a horseback-riding stance while cutting, leading to humorous moments as she struggled with back pain while trying to hold the posture.

During one practice session, an unexpected mishap occurred when the dog model’s tail accidentally fell off while she was brushing it. Watching from behind, the instructor sharply commented, “If it falls off, you fail,” leaving Joy visibly frustrated as she exclaimed, “No way!”

Although she confessed, “Honestly, it was really hard. It’s definitely not easy,” Joy continued to demonstrate strong determination toward achieving her goal. She revealed that she is currently studying intensively ahead of the written examination scheduled for July.
