Honolulu police said that at around 5:04 a.m., a 64-year-old man driving east on North Nimitz Highway near Lagoon Drive and hit a 35-year-old man who was lying in the roadway.

Emergency Medical Services treated the man and took him to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The driver was not injured and remained at the scene.

Police said speed, drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash.

This was Oahu’s 82nd traffic fatality this year compared with 54 at the same time in 2024.
