Hawaii commits 29 turnovers in loss to Montana State

Taylee Chirrick scored a game-high 26 points and Montana State forced 29 turnovers in a 72-56 win over Hawaii today in the Maui Classic at Seabury Hall Gym in Makawao, Maui.

Addison Harris made her last five shots to add 20 points for the Bobcats (7-4), who are ranked No. 17 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25.

Keiara Curtis came off the bench to lead Hawaii in scoring with 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting and Bailey Flavell added 11 points.

UH (6-6) finished 1-1 in the tournament and closes out nonconference play with a 6-4 record. Its other two losses were in its first two Big West games.

Hawaii’s 29 turnovers were one shy of tying a season-high.

UH trailed by as many as 19 in the third quarter and got within five at 48-43 in the fourth quarter.

Hawaii had two possessions to chip in even more to the deficit but turned the ball over both times. The Bobcats responded with a 24-7 run to put the game away.

The team will take Christmas week off before getting back to work in the gym to prepare for their next game on New Year’s Day against UC Riverside at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
