Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 2.0 launched at Dimapur, Jalukie

Dimapur, September 25: National Tobacco Control programme, Dimapur held the launching programme of ’60-days Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 2.0′, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on September 24 in the DC’s conference Hall, Dimapur.

The campaign was launched by Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang by releasing new sets of IEC materials for the campaign.

DC felicitated five schools namely – Government Middle School Phaipijang, Government High School Sarbura, Government Primary School Kirha, Neingulie Memorial High School and Christian Mission School with Tobacco-Free School Certificate for adopting Tobacco-free Educational Institution (ToFEI) guidelines of NTCP.

Key note address was given by Dr. Moa N Jamir, District Nodal Officer, NTCP Dimapur, who informed that Tobacco Free Youth Campaign has been planned for 60 days starting from September 24 to November 22, and aims to amplify social media engagement. The campaign also focus on four key strategies: escalating public awareness of tobacco’s harmful effects, enhancing compliance with tobacco products act (COTPA), and promoting tobacco free villages.

Jalukie: District Tobacco Control Cell Peren in collaboration with Jalukie Police Station, District Enforcement Force and United Riders Motorcycle Club organized a launching programme of Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0 at Jalukie Town on September 24. The campaign aims to build a healthier, tobacco free future among the youth through enhanced awareness, law enforcement and community engagement.

Speaking at the event, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Peren, Dr. Niriethono Zetsovi said tobacco is the leading cause of cancer and we cannot live in denial and ignorance any longer. She added that most of the cases of oral cancer today are because of tobacco use and therefore it is time to wake up and start taking responsibility of our health.

Social worker NTCP Peren, Hoineichin in her keynote address emphasized on the strategies of the campaign.

Later, OC Jalukie Police Station, Disa Haikube flagged off the event and the campaign was officially launched with the United Riders Motorcycle Club making their ride through the town centre and public areas to create more awareness on tobacco hazards.
