The Kid Who Danced Beside Baby Shark in 2016 Is Now 17 and Making His K-Pop Debut

He was 6 when he danced next to the cartoon that became YouTube’s most-watched video ever. Now that clip has 17 billion views, and the boy in it is releasing his own single with a Monsta X rapper on the track.
Park Geon-roung is dropping his debut single “WAVE” on August 20, a decade after he lip-synced beside Baby Shark in the 2016 clip that’s now passed 17 billion views on YouTube.
He was about 7 when Pinkfong filmed him as one of two live kids in “Baby Shark Dance.” The video became the most-watched thing on YouTube, holding the No. 1 spot for stretches as long as 69 straight months.
Now 17, he’s performing under the stage name Baby Shark Boy. The Pinkfong Company is putting it out as its first artist project, co-written by Park and built around what it’s like to step back into public view 10 years later. Joohoney of Monsta X features on the rap.
Park never really let go of the role. His Instagram bio has long nodded to it, and last year he marked the song’s 10th anniversary with short clips that pulled in roughly 22 million views.
“Ten years ago I was dancing next to Baby Shark,” he said in materials from the company. “Now, I wanted to share my own voice and a story I wrote myself.”
