Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel said Congresswoman Haley Stevens has no place in the party after she endorsed Republican Mike Rogers for Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat on November 1, 2 days before the election.

“Congresswoman Stevens is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future,” Hertel said.

Stevens withdrew her endorsement of Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed and appeared with Rogers over El-Sayed’s promise to put Americans first and stop sending money to Israel.

Mike Rogers has been supportive of Israel since his earlier time in Congress. AIPAC has viewed him as a reliable ally and was prepared to back him against Abdul El-Sayed in the general election after spending around $30 million trying to stop El-Sayed in the Democratic primary.

Hertel, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and other party leaders condemned her decision as a betrayal. Several high-ranking members of her congressional staff resigned in response.
