U.S. Marshals Just Arrested Andrew and Tristan Tate in the Miami

The Tate brothers have millions of followers and a rape and human trafficking case waiting for them in the U.K. On Saturday, federal agents put them in cuffs.

The warrant was sealed, and no charges were announced at the time of the arrest, U.S. Marshals Service spokesperson Brady McCarron told The Associated Press. A person familiar with the matter, speaking anonymously because they weren’t authorized to discuss the case, said the two were taken into custody on an extradition request from the U.K.

Andrew and Tristan Tate are dual U.S. and British citizens who built a following, especially among young men and boys, by selling a lifestyle of luxury and open misogyny. The former professional kickboxers moved to Romania in 2016 and were arrested there in 2022 over allegations they lured women into schemes for sexual exploitation. They denied it, and that case fell apart over legal and procedural irregularities.

The U.K. case behind Saturday’s warrant is substantial. The Crown Prosecution Service has authorized 21 charges across the two brothers over alleged offenses in the Luton and Bedfordshire area between 2012 and 2015. Andrew faces 10 counts, including three counts of rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution for gain, tied to three women. Tristan faces 11 counts, including rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking, tied to one woman.

European arrest warrants were issued in 2024. A Romanian court approved extradition but conditioned it on the Romanian criminal proceedings finishing first, and in late June the U.K. High Court refused the brothers’ bid to force prosecutors to name the three U.K. complainants before surrender, tying disclosure to the moment of extradition.

The Romanian case has also grown. In early July, DIICOT, the country’s organized crime unit, expanded the allegations to include making roughly £1 million (about $1.53 million) from sexually exploiting a 17-year-old through the brothers’ webcam business between 2014 and 2021, witness intimidation by both brothers, the illegal sale of five seized luxury cars, and money laundering. Tristan was additionally charged with assaulting a woman as punishment for refusing to film pornography. Five more luxury vehicles were seized.

Their lawyers have said the brothers deny the allegations across every jurisdiction and have framed the cases as politically motivated.
