World No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura to play in inaugural WR Bughouse

WORLD NO. 2 Hikaru Nakamura will clash with the best the country can offer but in a different kind of chess as he sees action in Monday’s inaugural WR Bughouse Championship at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in BGC, Taguig.

“Good morning from Manila,” said Mr. Nakamura via social media after flying to the country early on Sunday.

“Through chess, I’ve been able to travel around the world, and this is now the 63^rd unique country I’ve been to,” he added.

Mr. Nakamura will pair with German Wadim Rosenstein, founder of the organizing WR Chess that coughed up a total cash pot worth $100,000, or a whopping P6.1 million. — Joey Villar
