by Ankrah Shalom, https://www.facebook.com/legitngnews · Legit.ng News · Join- The UK government published a temporary shortage list on showing over 70 job types open to foreign workers
- Salaries on the list range from £25,000 a year for roles like laboratory technicians to £70,100 for directors in consultancy services
- The list covers two pay tiers, a standard rate for those who got their first certificate of sponsorship after 4 April 2024, and a lower rate for those sponsored before that date
The UK government released a temporary shortage list detailing more than 70 specific job types that foreign nationals can apply for under the Skilled Worker visa route, with annual salaries ranging from £25,000 to over £70,000.
Published by UK Visas and Immigration, the guidance covers medium-skilled roles across sectors including construction, engineering, finance, IT, the arts, and logistics. Foreigners can use the list to apply for entry clearance, switch to the Skilled Worker route, or extend an existing permission to stay.
All salaries listed are calculated on the basis of a 37.5-hour working week and must be pro-rated for other working patterns, based on the weekly working hours stated by the employer.
Standard Rate vs Lower Rate
The list operates on two salary tiers. Workers who received their first certificate of sponsorship on or after 4 April 2024 must meet the standard rate.
Those who got their certificate before that date and have held Skilled Worker visas continuously since then qualify for the lower rate.
Additional salary reductions may also apply for new entrants or holders of relevant PhD qualifications.
