Quentin Tarantino has completed the script for his 10th feature film, though the director plans to hold off on production until his London stage production finishes its run. The filmmaker shared the update during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, marking his first visit to the program in over a decade.
Tarantino reaffirmed his longstanding plan to retire from filmmaking after ten features, but made it clear that he will not rush into production. “I’ve written a script that I really like, but I want to do the play and see who I am; then I’ll then go back and spend time with my family and live a little and then see what I want to do,” Tarantino said.
His immediate creative focus is centered on The Popinjay Cavalier, which originated as a screenplay before transitioning into a stage production. “It really worked as a play,” Tarantino explained, adding, “I think it will be thrilling.” Billed as a swashbuckling comedy starring Sacha Baron Cohen, the production marks the filmmaker’s West End debut following his 2019 Oscar-winning film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. “I’m keen with anticipation to give the West End a great night out,” Tarantino noted.
The Popinjay Cavalier begins previews in late February before officially opening at London’s Phoenix Theatre next March, running through June 13.
