Savannah Guthrie Makes ‘Today’ Return After Mother’s Disappearance: ‘Here We Go, Ready or Not’
· Rolling StoneSavannah Guthrie made her return to the Today Show on Monday morning, just over two months after taking a leave of absence following the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. “Well, here we go, ready or not,” Guthrie said. “Let’s do the news.”
Guthrie was joined by her co-anchor, Craig Melvin. “Pretty shot of the sun coming up. Good morning, welcome to Today on this Monday morning we are so glad you started your week with us and it’s good to be home,” she said at the start of the show. Melvin added, “Yes, it’s good to have you back at home.”
Guthrie stepped away in February and was replaced in the interim by Hoda Kotb, who previously exited the show in 2025 after nearly 20 years. The pair sat down last month for Guthrie’s first interview since her mother went missing. “It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness, and I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” Guthrie said at the time about her return to Today. “But I can’t not come back, because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now.”
She added, “I don’t know if I’ll belong anymore, and I would like to try. I would like to try. But I’m not going to be the same.”

Guthrie‘s 84-year-old mother was abducted on Jan. 31. Since then, Guthrie has been in Arizona with her family. They offered a $1 million reward for Nancy’s return in addition to the FBI’s $100,000 reward. Investigators have had few leads since the discovery of video footage taken by a doorbell camera that appeared to show an armed and masked man at Nancy’s door the night she disappeared. Police have detained several persons of interest but have not charged anyone.
The Today audience gave Guthrie a warm welcome back. “Some beautiful signs out there,” she said. “I’m excited to see them, give them all a hug. I’ve been really feeling the love so much.”
