In 1998, just two years after entering politics, One Nation leader Pauline Hanson was ousted from the seat of Blair despite securing 36 per cent of the primary vote, more than 10 per cent ahead of her Liberal opponent.

Despite racing ahead on primary votes, the decision by all major parties to place One Nation last on its preference allocation meant Hanson’s bid was all but doomed from the start.
