Treasurer Jim Chalmers says tonight’s budget will be “very ambitious” and aimed squarely at lifting living standards over time.

Saying “the pace of change will pick up tonight”, the treasurer stopped short of revealing what’s in the budget beyond the well-flagged leaks of changes to capital gains tax, negative gearing and the taxation of trusts.
