Samsung SmartThings expands integration with IKEA smart home devices

Today, Samsung has announced an expansion of its SmartThings ecosystem, bringing deeper integration with IKEA smart home devices powered by the Matter standard. The move is aimed at simplifying smart home setups while making connected devices more accessible and affordable.

25 IKEA Devices Now Work Seamlessly With SmartThings

With the update, SmartThings now supports 25 IKEA smart home products, including smart bulbs, plugs, remotes, and various sensors such as temperature, motion, air quality, and water leak detectors. These devices are built on Matter over Thread, a modern standard designed to improve compatibility between devices from different brands.

One of the biggest improvements is the simplified setup. Previously, users often needed both an IKEA hub and a SmartThings hub to connect devices. With the new integration, IKEA devices can now connect directly to SmartThings, reducing complexity and making it easier for users to build a smart home without additional hardware.

The integration also enables IKEA devices to work more seamlessly with Samsung’s broader ecosystem. Users can control connected devices through SmartThings across smartphones, TVs, and home appliances such as air conditioners and washing machines.

A Push Toward More Accessible Smart Homes

Both Samsung and IKEA are positioning this collaboration as a way to lower the barrier to entry for smart home adoption. By combining IKEA’s affordable hardware with SmartThings’ automation platform, users can build connected homes more easily without high upfront costs.
