Opera for Android gets new football hub ahead of World Cup 2026
Opera has announced a new update for its Android browser, adding a dedicated football hub for fans who want to keep track of matches in one place. The update was revealed on 9 June 2026 and is available at no extra cost to Opera users.
Follow football matches directly in your browser
Furthermore, the new football hub lets users check live scores, match statistics, team line-ups, and key match events without leaving the browser. Users can also choose their favourite teams and receive notifications for goals, kick-offs, red cards, and final results.
Besides that, Opera has added an AI-powered news feed that shows football-related stories and updates. According to the company, the feature is meant to make it easier for fans to follow matches during one of the biggest football tournaments of 2026.
The football hub is available in both Opera for Android and Opera Mini.
New start page features
Besides football-related tools, Opera has refreshed the browser's start page. The update adds a weather widget that displays current weather information at a glance.
In addition, users will also find quicker access to AI Mode and private browsing. Opera has also added more options for customising Speed Dial icons, allowing users to choose different icon shapes.
Based on feedback from thousands of users
Additionally, Opera said the update was partly inspired by a survey involving more than 77000 users from over 190 countries. According to the survey, 86% of respondents plan to follow the upcoming tournament, while 38% prefer getting updates through a web browser instead of a dedicated app.
Moreover, the company also found that many fans expect to stay up late to watch matches, making quick access to scores and updates more important.

The latest Opera for Android update includes:
- Football hub
- Live scores

Unfortunately, this feature is currently unavailable in Malaysia
We tested this feature recently, and it seemed the football hub is still unavailable in Malaysia. Besides the Opera browser, we also have Unifi, RTM, and MyGOV as alternatives to watch and catch the latest updates on the World Cup. Perhaps it will arrive just in time with the World Cup.
