Russia bans Roblox and FaceTime due to the risks of terrorism, extremists and LGBTQ+ propaganda
In case you didn’t know, the Russia's Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technologies and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) has banned Apple's FaceTime video calling feature and Roblox in the country. So, what should you know about it?
A suspicious bug from FaceTime
For your information, it is alleged that FaceTime is a communications feature used to organise and carry out terrorist attacks, recruit criminals, and commit fraud and other crimes against Russian citizens. Apple users in Russia are reporting that when they try to answer a FaceTime video call, it fails to connect. If a FaceTime call is attempted, the device displays a notification that says "User cannot be reached."
Besides that, Roskomnadzor banned Roblox from being accessed by users in the country due to its alleged use of LGBTQ+ propaganda and also spreading extremist content. Since invading Ukraine, Russia has blocked a variety of foreign apps.
Moreover, Russia banned civil servants from using Apple devices two years ago. This came after the Russian intelligence agency, the FSB, alleged that Apple was helping the United States spy on devices belonging to Russian civil servants.
